We had a wonderful time at Limone, one of Breda’s local restaurants. The meal started with a platter of cheese, salad, and cold cuts, followed by a delicious pasta for the main course. For dessert, we enjoyed a mix of tiramisu, cheesecake, and cannoli. It was the perfect meal to share together! #illimonebreda

We hope to see you at the Coffee Morning on September 13, from 08:45 to 10:00 in the school canteen. It’s a great chance to meet other parents and enjoy a relaxed chat with some coffee.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Luncheon is our chance as parents to show just how much we value and appreciate our wonderful teachers and staff. We’re so grateful for the care and dedication they put into teaching and taking care of our children. This lunch is a small way to say thanks for all you do.
And last but certainly not least, thank you to all the parents for making this day such a success!

Father’s Day is a celebration honoring fathers and father figures for their contributions to families and society. It is widely observed in many countries, each with its own traditions and dates for the celebration.

In the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and several other countries, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. It is marked by giving gifts, spending time with fathers, and expressing gratitude through cards and messages.

In many parts of Europe, including countries like Spain and Italy, Father’s Day is celebrated on March 19th, which is also St. Joseph’s Day, reflecting its Catholic traditions.

Australia and New Zealand celebrate Father’s Day on the first Sunday of September, coinciding with the start of spring in the Southern Hemisphere.

In some countries, such as Thailand, Father’s Day is celebrated on December 5th, the birthday of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, to honor both the king and fathers nationwide.

The celebration varies, but the sentiment remains the same: a day to appreciate and honor fathers for their role in the family and community.

The Avondvierdaagse event this year was a great success. Children walked for four nights through various weather conditions, demonstrating resilience and enthusiasm. The final evening was particularly festive as we celebrated at Uncle Jean in Ginneken, enjoying a well-deserved end to the event. Special thank you to all the dedicated parent volunteers that helped organize and support this event. Congratulations to all the ISB participants for their dedication and spirit! Here’s to another fantastic event next year! 👌

Organized by the Parents Association, the Avondvierdaagse is a beloved Dutch event where participants walk 5, 10, or 15 kilometers each evening for four days. It began today, and we’re off to a good start. We love how it brings communities, families and schools together. The final evening will be especially festive, with music, medals, and a real sense of accomplishment.

Eid al-Fitr, also known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is a significant religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. During Eid al-Fitr, Muslims gather for special prayers, often in mosques or open spaces, to express gratitude to Allah for the strength and guidance throughout Ramadan. It’s a time of joy, feasting, and sharing with family and friends. Traditions include giving zakat (charity) to those in need, dressing in new clothes, exchanging gifts, and enjoying festive meals together. The atmosphere is vibrant and filled with the spirit of unity, forgiveness, and compassion. Eid al-Fitr is a time of renewal, reflection, and celebration of faith and community bonds.

Easter, a Christian holiday, celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, as described in the New Testament of the Bible. It is a time of joy and renewal, marked by traditions such as attending church services, decorating Easter eggs, and enjoying festive meals with family and friends. For many, Easter also symbolizes hope, new beginnings, and the promise of eternal life. Additionally, Easter often coincides with the arrival of spring, bringing a sense of rejuvenation and the beauty of nature’s awakening after the long winter months.

Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours, is a vibrant and joyous Hindu festival celebrated predominantly in India and Nepal, as well as in various other parts of the world. It marks the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil. The festival is characterized by colourful celebrations where people gather to play with vibrant powders, known as gulal, and water, throwing them on each other in a spirit of camaraderie and joy. Holi also symbolizes unity and forgiveness, as people come together to reconcile and mend relationships, forgetting past grievances. Traditional sweets and delicacies are shared, adding to the festive atmosphere. Beyond its religious significance, Holi has become a globally recognized cultural event, celebrated by people of all backgrounds, fostering a sense of togetherness and harmony.

Nowruz, which means “new day” in Persian, is the Persian New Year and marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. It is an ancient festival with roots in Zoroastrianism and is celebrated by various communities and countries, primarily those with Persian or Iranian heritage. Nowruz is observed by people in Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, parts of Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Pakistan, India, and other regions with significant Persian influence. Additionally, Nowruz is celebrated by diaspora communities around the world. It is a time of renewal, hope, and joy, marked by various traditions and customs, including cleaning and decorating homes, visiting friends and family, preparing special foods, and engaging in festivities that can last for several days.

Ramadan is not only a time for personal spiritual growth but also a period of heightened compassion and generosity towards those less fortunate. Muslims are encouraged to engage in acts of charity, known as Zakat and Sadaqah, to support those in need within their communities. This emphasis on giving back underscores the importance of empathy and solidarity, as individuals strive to alleviate the suffering of others and spread kindness throughout the month. Through charitable deeds and outreach programs, Ramadan becomes a time of collective effort to address social inequalities and uplift the marginalized, reflecting the core values of compassion and justice in Islam.

International Women’s Day 2024 celebrates the achievements, resilience, and progress of women worldwide. This year’s theme focuses on breaking barriers, empowering women, and fostering gender equality in all spheres of life. From advocating for women’s rights to challenging societal norms, the day highlights the ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable world for all genders. It’s a time to recognize the contributions of women past and present, and to reaffirm the commitment to building a future where every woman can thrive and reach her full potential.

About the Event

Holi is an ancient Hindu tradition and also one of the most popular festivals in Hinduism. It celebrates the eternal and divine love of god Radha Krishna. The day also signifies the triumph of good over evil, as it commemorates the victory of god Vishnu as Narasimha Narayana over Hiranyakashipu.

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is the most important traditional festival in Chinese culture, celebrated by billions of people around the world. It marks the beginning of the lunar new year and typically falls between January 21st and February 20th. Each year is associated with one of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac, and 2024 is the Year of the Dragon.

Preparations for Chinese New Year often begin weeks in advance, with families cleaning their homes to sweep away any bad luck and making festive decorations. The celebrations officially start on New Year’s Eve with a reunion dinner, where families gather to enjoy special dishes and exchange good wishes.

During the festival, there are various customs and traditions, including giving red envelopes (hongbao) containing money for good luck, setting off fireworks to ward off evil spirits, and watching dragon and lion dances. The color red is prominently featured as it symbolizes prosperity and good fortune.

Chinese New Year festivities typically last for 15 days, culminating in the Lantern Festival, where colorful lanterns are displayed, and people gather to solve riddles and enjoy traditional performances. It’s a time for family reunions, honoring ancestors, and looking forward to a prosperous year ahead.

About the Event

Are you a bit tired of that one plate, that mug from your grandmother, or that flower vase on the windowsill?
With a little porcelain paint and some handy tools you can transform that piece of porcelain or earthenware into a nice new eye-catcher in your home.
During this workshop Joyce will teach you the technique of porcelain dots. You bring an item from home, or choose one of the (second-hand) plates that she has for you.
We provide coffee/tea and something tasty during this workshop.
The workshops will be held in Het Aardrijk in the neighbourhood Haagse Beemden in Breda.
2,5 hours workshop, €29,50 a person.
